Bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, H.E. Narendra Modi

On 14 June, Prime Minister Charles Michel had a telephone meeting with Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.

The two Prime Ministers took stock of India’s official visit on 30 March of this year. India and Belgium have excellent bilateral relations. Bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to 12 billion EUR in 2015. Investments are also on the increase and the two Prime Ministers committed to further boosting trade.

The two Prime Ministers also discussed India’s application to enter the Nuclear Suppliers Group. Belgium welcomes India’s desire to be a member of any international control export system and is ready to work with India to put this desire into practice.

Belgium backs India’s application to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group, as it believes that this will reinforce international non-proliferation. It actively participates in exchanges taking place in the Group to facilitate India’s membership.
