Meeting Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel
Last week the leaders of the European Union agreed on nominations at the extraordinary European Council in Brussels. The European Council elected Charles Michel as the new President of the European Council and proposed Ursula von der Leyen as candidate for the President of the European Commission. During their meeting on Monday 8th of July in Brussels Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel discussed the future priorities of the European Union.
They exchanged on the best ways to fulfill the main objective of the Union such as
- protecting our citizens while guaranteeing essential freedoms
- creating more jobs
- building a climate neutral, fair and social Europe
- and promoting European interests on a global level.
Europe is facing huge challenges in the coming months such as Brexit, the next European budget and climate change.
Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel agreed that European institutions will have to work in close cooperation to address these issues.
