Prime Minister Charles Michel meeting with Mr. Jack Ma, Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group

Today, Prime Minister Charles Michel had a meeting with Mr. Jack Ma, Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group at the Prime Minister’s residence in Brussels.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister and Mr Ma discussed the Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) initiative which offers small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) the infrastructure to conduct commerce with services encompassing ecommerce, logistics, cloud computing, mobile payment and talent training. The vision for eWTP is to lower trade barriers and provide more equitable access to markets for SMEs around the world, with private sector and governments working together. During the meeting the Prime Minister expressed interest in to Belgium becoming a partner to the eWTP initiative and promoting this vision.

The meeting follows Alibaba’s logistics arm Cainiao’s recent announcement which stated that it is considering opening logistics hubs in six cities across the globe, including Belgium’s Liège.
